An Open Letter to Phoenix Mayor, Greg Stanton

Mayor Greg Stanton
Phoenix City Hall
200 W. Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 85003

Dear Mayor Stanton,

You have been an impressive ally to all people in our community. Knowing your commitment to honoring the dignity of a segment of the American population that is often marginalized, it is with great concern that I bring to your attention a student policy recently adopted by Great Hearts Arizona.

As you know, Great Hearts is a charter school system which operates twenty schools in the Phoenix metro area, of which one of your children attends.

On June 22, 2016, the Great Hearts Arizona Board of Directors passed a school policy covering transgender and gender non-conforming students. The policy they chose to adopt is in direct violation of Federal Title IX provisions and is damaging to transgender students and the broader community.

I would like to ask your support in championing change. I would like to ask that you use your public voice to draw attention to this policy, to bring help me bring awareness to the policy’s violation of basic civil rights, and to continue your legacy as an ally and supporter of equal rights to all people.

A copy of the policy passed by the Great Hearts Arizona Board of Directors can be found <here>.

Thank you for your support and your continued diligence in fighting for what is right.

A Concerned Great Hearts Parent
